Musical Progress
I thought it would be a good idea if we had a thread to discuss the progress we have made in our songs.
I started mine yesterday and I have half of the intro done. It's still not mixed well at all but the music's there. To test it out I played the audio from the clips I want to use over a loop and it really does fit well with the song.

As for me:
Cupcakes-Might rerecord vocals
So Many Wonders-Either get vocals or redo completely
Cutie Mark Crusaders-Needs some 80's synth work
Sonic Rainboom-Mix properly and rerecord EVH parts
Singing Telegram-Vocals

Winter Wrap-Up
Successfully broke the verses down into the heaviest chord progression possible, found a good rhythm and fill to use for the chorus.
This is gonna be weird because I'm maintaining the happy feel. Happy Metal?

Re: Musical Progress
Haven't really worked on this yesterday... But so far i have figured out the entire melody and chords, got all the sounds and effects ready, rhytmic section is ready in my head, composed some harmonics and backgrounds, figured out the structure almost to the half way, and jotted down some cool ideas for it...
Optimitstic estimations: I'll be ready to hit the record button some time next week.
I'm going to work harder on this now that my social life will be a bit more quiet during workdays...

Re: Musical Progress
I'm gonna be honest - I haven't done that much yet because I've been super busy. Right now I've been working on constructing the ATG chord and melodic progression. Once I've got that I'm going to start arranging each section to have a unique feel. Got a lot to catch up on, but I should start having stuff done towards the end of next week.

Re: Musical Progress
My Celestia thing (which is looking to turn into a Celestia/Luna Harpsichord/Vibraphone duet!) is going slowly, but steadily. Maybe 30 seconds of solid material so far. Trying to emulate baroque style is hard ;A;

Re: Musical Progress
I have a general idea and I've laid out several riffs for Evil Enchantress, but it seems like I'll be too busy to do real work on it for a week or two; I have to finish an entry or two for Remix War and record some guitars and keys for the Stitching it Together singalong.
At this point however, I think the finished product will be roughly a minute and a half. I don't really have much to work with

Re: Musical Progress
Most of the songs I have are under 3 minutes (Except Cutie Mark Crusaders, which clocks in at 4 minutes)NightColt wrote:I have a general idea and I've laid out several riffs for Evil Enchantress, but it seems like I'll be too busy to do real work on it for a week or two; I have to finish an entry or two for Remix War and record some guitars and keys for the Stitching it Together singalong.

Re: Musical Progress
My Evil Enchantress is going to be thrash metal, BTW, and it's going nicely. (Think Queensrythe)
Re: Musical Progress
Still haven't got the soundcard...
But i did raw recordings on my synthesizer already.
This song is going to be quite long, maybe 5-6 minutes.
May change if i decide to renovate the entire thing or something when the actual recording starts.

Re: Musical Progress
I have to record the Thrash Enchantress vocals soon. I'll have to prep myself for the shrieking.
Re: Musical Progress
The recording...
IT.
IS.
ON!!!!!
^^
And the catch of the first evening: nearly all instruments recorded for the first minute...
At this rate the first song shouldn't take too long anymore.

Re: Musical Progress
Thought that everypony should know: i'm going to go travelling on 17th day and if there won't be setbacks i'll be back the first week of next month. Otherwise earlier. I'm not sure if i can finish my songs before that (piano piece: 3 minutes recorded, no fear: still sketching...) . So likely they will be delayed...

Re: Musical Progress
Yep, I'm also gonna be gone for three weeks starting sunday and upon my return I'm gonna be a lot busier than I thought. Then I'm going away for another week. Then school. Despite all this, I may still be able to work in something for this collab, but it won't be until late August or early September, and I won't begin until August. Hope I can still be of some help.

Re: Musical Progress
Wow, lots of people going away. I, too, must depart. I'm leaving tomorrow at 7 PM EST, and I'll be back on the 24th or so. I more-or-less finished the first section of my Celestia/Luna piece:
"Sun and Moon"
Ignore the crappy synth and stuff, this was rendered by MuseScore of all things. The final one will be recorded directly from my nice midi keyboard.

Re: Musical Progress
Have fun, everypony who's leaving for a bit. That Sun and Moon piece is pretty good so far, though I don't see how the marimba fits in (Maybe it's just me. I like the harpsichord bits)
Re: Musical Progress
Hmm, I thought the marimba was sorta carrying the piece once it came in. The idea is a duet - Celestia on harpsichord and Luna on marimba, so I can't exactly take it out, but maybe I could try to weave it closer with the harpsichord? They seemed to complement each other pretty well to my ears.

Re: Musical Progress
You know, listening to this one, maybe I was wrong, it does work. It's a little strange, but it works. It has a light-hearted feel, and I see what you mean with the Celestia/Luna thing (Celestia is more regal, while Luna is a bit more kiddy)Elision wrote:Hmm, I thought the marimba was sorta carrying the piece once it came in. Re: Musical Progress
Nice one Elision!
And keep the marimba. It goes just perfectly with the theme of the song.
As for my project... Setbacks.
At current sample rate (96kHz) buffer overloads if i record longer than 30 seconds or so. Resulting in a loud CLICK.
So i have to do this in really small pieces and that's not all. I have to re-record all piano tracks...
If anything this is great practice of patience.
Also what the hay is that solar power thing at coffee shop???
Automated commercial account?

Re: Musical Progress
Thanks to my awesome planning skills, I now have 3 or 4 pony metal projects to work on. But hey, that's just like the school year, only 20% cooler, right?
Anyway, I have like, a minute and a half worth of guitars, "bass", and drums here for you. A quick little demo basically laying out all the essential riffs and whatnot. The end product will probably have an extended intro, a bridge, and another verse/chorus. And synths are a possibility, though somewhat unlikely. And vocals. Right. I have to find time to do vocals.

(I derped with the guitar at about 1:01 and didn't bother to fix it, btw)

Re: Musical Progress
Oh my goodness...
Still one song to go...
And can't get to it for a few days.
EDIT: I'll remaster the first one after i'm done with this. It sounds rather awful. :S

Re: Musical Progress
Since there's now a few months of time and I'm now actually learning music theory in school, I've basically started from scratch on Sun & Moon. I felt like I didn't have enough idea of where it was going (or idea how to write baroque counterpoint) and so I'm trying to redo it with stronger overall composition. Here's hoping it works better this time.
